Perfect Skater Dress: McCall's 6754

I've made four dresses from this McCall's 6754 pattern, and definitely have plans to make more! I love this pattern. It's cute, flattering, and so easy to sew.

This version is the third dress I made with this pattern. It's made with this great, sturdy knit fabric, but I'm not sure what it's called. I got it from the flat fold new arrivals table from Hancock's, so there was no information about the fabric. But it felt really nice and I loved the color, so I got it. It also has great texture/pattern, which you can see in the close up picture.

Pattern: McCall's 6754, this one is view B, but I've also made A and D.

What I liked: This pattern was so easy and quick to sew. It is flattering and a great staple dress pattern. I love the scoop neck, and especially the scoop back. It's a big scoop, but it comes up high enough to cover my bra band.

What I changed: I didn't change too much. I lengthened the bodice because the waist seam was too high on the first version I sewed. I also shortened the dress (I don't remember exactly, but by maybe 2 inches), but I'm short so I usually have to do so. I also added bindings on the neck and armholes. This dress was the first time I've done bindings, and I love how it turned out!

Size and fitting: On the first dress I sewed with this pattern, I originally cut a medium, but had to take it in significantly because it runs so big. I cut this dress an extra small and I like the fit. One thing I noticed was that the darts in the front came up really high, so I shortened them by about an inch.

This is a great pattern for beginner and experienced sewers. The pattern runs big, but otherwise needed minimal alterations (for me, at least).
